A Nixie Clock
I spent ages this month hand wiring a nixie clock. For some reason I decided that wirewrapping over 100 connections would be easier than designing a circuit board. Anyway, I'm happy with the results.
- Pico W to keep the time in sync and bit bang out the data
- Three 74LS595N latching shift registers. Each nibble was one digit of the clock.
- Six (one per tube) K155ID1 BCD to Decimal decoders
- Six IN-1 nixie tubes
Some photos of the creation.
The case was designed and laser cut at the hackspace using 3mm plywood. I then sprayed on primer and black paint - finish turned out alright I think! To make the feet, I turned some brass rods on the mini lathe at the hackspace and then added an angle to the flat part, which makes the clock sort of sit like a dog.
